NATURAL Homemade Insect Repellent: Place the following ingredients into a large container.
~One fat juicy lemon with a heavy rind sliced paper thin
~One Tablespoon of crushed Rosemary sprinkled over the lemon slices.
Pour 32 ounces of near-boiling water over the lemon and Rosemary. Cover with a clean cloth and let the liquid “steep” for at least 15 hours After the “steeping” time, pour the liquid through cheesecloth into a clean quart size canning jar, cover and store in the refrigerator. Transfer 4-6 ounces at a time into a spray bottle with a fine mist applicator. Spray liberally over the skin and coat. Avoid contact with the eyes. Repeat the application as frequently as required. OK for both humans and dogs.
SUMMER DOG TREATS:
Frozen Yogurt:
(1) 32oz. container of low-fat Greek plain yogurt
(2) 1 cup peanut butter
(3) 2 Tbls honey
(4) 1 ripe banana (optional)
Using a blender or food processor, blend all ingredients until smooth. Pour mixture into ice cube trays and freeze. When they are frozen hard, you can pop them out into zip-lock bags for storage in the freezer.
Frozen Doggie Yums:
(1) 2 cups low-sodium chicken or beef stock
(2) ½ lbs raw chicken or beef hearts cut into ½” sized small pieces
(3) Frozen cut up carrots (make sure carrots are cut into very small pieces)
Mix all ingredients together and freeze into ice cube trays. Store in zip-lock bags in freezer.
Meal Additive:
Doggie Meatloaf:
- 4 lbs. ground turkey
- 2.5 cups Old Fashioned Oatmeal
- 5 EX. Lg. eggs (beaten with 3 tbls of water)
- 1 cup of frozen green beans
- 1 cup of frozen spinach or 1 cup fresh (chopped in small pieces)
- 1/2 cup blueberries (frozen or fresh)
- 1/2 cup of organic canned pumpkin or 1 cup sweet potatoes
- 3 teaspoons of salt
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- In a large bowl thoroughly combine all ingredients. Put mixture into two 5 x 7 loaf pans or into mini cupcake pans (be sure to use Pam)
- Bake for approximately 1 hour (loaf pans will take longer) or until a nice crust on top
- Let cool and cut into 1″ slices if you use the loaf pan( each slice is enough for 4 meals when added with kibble). Each mini cupcake meatloaf is enough for one day.
- Freeze slices/minis individually for further use.
I like to heat up 1/2 slice of meatloaf (about 1/2 cup)with 4 tbls. hot water and a 1/2 scoop of NuVet. I add this to 1/2 cup of dry kibble for a days feeding per dog Of course this is cut in half per feeding. I will add in 1 teaspoon of Plain Whole Fat Greek Yogurt to each feeding just prior to putting down. This gives the added calcium which is not in the meatloaf.
I typically feed around 7-8 am then again 4-5 pm. I try to have their last meal as early as possible. If feeding a puppy then amount should be reduced by 1/4 cup per day. You should be feeding as close to 1 cup per day when full grown. I am not a huge fan of giving lots of treats during the day since their main diet should be their two meals. If you love giving treats then try a small freeze dried piece for training purposes.
This is just a good guide for items to be either added or reduced in the recipe. Feel free to reduce or eliminate an item if needed. Ours have gotten where they don’t like blueberries so at present I have eliminated them.
